One-to-one S2C session with practitioner and speller

About S2C

Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is a motor-sensory method that teaches non-speaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals the purposeful motor skills required to spell words by pointing to letters — opening a new pathway for communication.

Through S2C, individuals around the world have found their voice — expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas that were once locked inside.

Many of our students live with a condition known as apraxia (or dyspraxia), which means that while their minds are capable and aware, their brains have difficulty translating intent into physical movement. S2C bridges this gap, helping individuals communicate intentionally and reliably.

Review Resources

As a part of commencing with Spell to Connect, it is vital to do some research to understand S2C and spelling. Here are some resources to get you started:

Our Shared Commitment

Our Commitment to You

Spell to Connect (Rachael Earwaker, S2C Practitioner) pledges to:

+ Provide professional, respectful, and consistent S2C services

+ Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

+ Tailor sessions to meet each student’s motor, cognitive, and regulation needs

+ Provide feedback and guidance to families

+ Maintain confidentiality of all client information (unless disclosure is required by law or safety reasons)

Families and caregivers

The success of S2C depends on collaboration and consistency. Progress is influenced by many factors, including the student’s level of apraxia, practice frequency, regulation, health, and environment.

To support your speller’s journey, we ask that parents or caregivers commit to:

+ Learning about S2C and how it works

+ Practising regularly at home (at least twice a week)

+ Scheduling and attending Communication Regulation Partner (CRP) training (a 2-hour session required for all partners)

+ Purchasing letterboards

+ Advocating for your speller’s right to communication

+ Providing accurate, up-to-date information about the student’s needs and history

+ Respecting session structure and practitioner guidance
